Published 26/04/2016

The Midland & Western junior riders were out in force and on flying form at Mullingar EC on the 24th April for our big show of the year. The Curran family in particular dominated with multiple wins including clinching the coveted team competition. Lauren Fahy and her lovely pony Twinfort Guardian won the Cummins HomeValu sponsored Pony Club Novice test with 60.55%. The Caitriona Curran and Dancing Espri won the Introductory B test with 64.13%. The AIRC 1 test was won by Sophie Von Maltzan who had a very busy afternoon competing four horses in this class. The second Riding Club class, AIRC 3, was won by Donna Murray and her attractive mare Lady Temple with a high score of 73.53%. Preliminary BD 7 was split into registered and unregistered sections with Cillian Curran and Southeast Starlight achieving a score of 69.50% to clinch the first prize sponsored by Toorala Equine Performance. Donna Murray secured her second win of the day by riding a lovely test to score 69.00% and therefore clinch the unregistered section. Cillian’s brother Finn Curran then partnered the talented and consistent Southeast Starlight to convincingly win Preliminary BD 18 with a huge score of 76.25%. The third Preliminary class, DI 15, was won by Danielle Carey and her full ID Warwick Clover on a score of 69. 46%. Cassandra Morris continued her excellent form with her impressive bay gelding Redpark Magic by clinching the Novice DI 27 with a super score of 70.86%. Cassandra also posted an excellent score of 69.40% in the Para Grade IV FEI Novice test. Avril O’Byrne riding the talented Boolagh Picasso were the convincing winners of Novice DI 24 by a margin of nearly 7%, with an impressive score of 73.00%. Tracey Ward rode her extremely elegant and well balanced Trakehner gelding Fontane to first place in both Elementary classes, being awarded scores of 74.03 and 73.15% from List 1 judge Gisela Holstein. Her accomplished performances sealed her the title of Leading Senior Rider, winning a beautiful rug sponsored by Horseworld Saddlery. Finn Curran was Leading Junior Rider for his excellent performance in Preliminary BD 18 and won a 300 euro voucher for private holistic equine treatments generously sponsored by leading practitioner Dr Shelley McCormick (Head 2 Heal). The team competition, sponsored by Olympic Saddlery and Toorala Equine Performance, proved a huge success and was eventually won by the Curran Team of Finn, Caitriona, Caoimhe and Cillian with an average score of 70.96%. Hot on their heels was Team Girl Power who scored 70.19% (Cassandra Morris, Thomasina O’Reilly, Roisin Winters and Miriam Mangan). A huge thank you must go to our wonderful and generous class sponsors, Toorala Equine Performance, William Hayes Saddle fitter, CMCC Financial Solutions, Montar, Prestige, Schockemohle Sports, Cummins HomeValu and Kingsborough Horses, who had provided outstanding prizes for all our winners. Thank you also to all the wonderful helpers who enabled the show to be a success, our competitors who supported the show, Mullingar EC for enabling us to use their impressive facilities, and of course to our superb judges Gisela Holstein, Michael Moore, Tracey Ward and Nina Reinbold.
