Winter League Finals 2019

Published 09/04/2019

The Midland & Western Dressage Regional Winter Final was held at Claremorris EC, on the 24th of March. The show was a huge success, and with our popular league format as in other years the sections were hotly contested. We secured fabulous sponsors for each section, and we thank Green Earth Organics, The Equine Warehouse, Tack Up Galway, Claremorris Equestrian Centre, Area 51 Computers, and The Carpet and Rug Centre for their very generous and gratefully received sponsorship.

The Trailblazers League was sponsored by Green Earth Organics, and it was the youngest competitor of the day 10yr old Rebecca McGrath, and her pony Bilko claiming the win, with Hannah Keane and Goldies Gina in reserve champion spot. 3rd place was taken by Ciara Hanley and Captain Caruso. Trailblazers is the section for u 21 riders to get an introduction to dressage with small arena tests in a friendly environment.

The Preliminary League was sponsored by The Equine Warehouse, and here it was Nessa Toher Shannon and Cargins Mountain Farrell who were crowned league champions, reserve champion was Ciara Hanley and her stallion Captain Caruso with 3rd place going to Lucy Jackson and Branchfield Dandy. The preliminary section this winter has been a particular gem in the crown of the region with so many regular and new faces giving us large and competitive classes.

The Novice league was sponsored by Tack Up Galway and it was here Nessa Toher Shannon and Cargins Mountain Farrell did the double, having already claimed the preliminary title. Reserve Champion was Patricia Frost and Ballj Spirit, with Leah Treacy and Killeenduff Jack taking 3rd place. Like our preliminary section we have had healthy competition and our grass roots dressage is going from strenght to strenght.

The Elementary League was sponsored by Claremorris Equestrian Centre, and Lorraine Kennedy and Major Furisto were crowned winter champions, with Sinead McGrath and Killard Precision as Reserve Champions, Petra Hewer and Coolgreen Sally claimed 3rd place.

The Medium/Advanced league sponsored by Area 51 Computers saw Connie Noone with Kilcorban Flash Diamond take home the Champion title as well as a laptop! Liz White and Finlandia were the reserve champions at this level.

The Carpet and Rug Centre sponsoroed a prize to the highest score of the day, and it was a tight fought affair with wonderful combinations all scoring very well and over the 70% marks, it was however Cillian Curran and his horse Charlotte who won the day with 74.42%

Thank you to all the competitors who supported this very special show and to all the hard-working organisers, helpers, judges and sponsors who made the show possible. We look forward to seeing you all again for our summer season, starting with the inaugural Wild Atlantic Dressage Festival at the beginning of may.
